Yonkers is the most populous city in Westchester County and is known as the City of Seven Hills. It borders the Bronx to the south and the Hudson River to the west. Slopes make leash manners obvious, since a dog who pulls uphill is hard to miss, and stairs on older blocks add another test of patience. General estimates for a stay run $1,500 to $2,500 or more, depending on the trainer.

The Hudson waterfront has revitalized green space, and the Saw Mill River has been daylighted in places. Tibbetts Brook Park is another place for a walk. Check posted rules for dogs before you choose a spot for practice.

Parkways such as the Saw Mill River Parkway, Cross County Parkway and Sprain Brook Parkway tie the city to the region, and Route 9A is a major surface road. If your dog rides in the car for a stay, practice calm car rides beforehand.

The mix of apartment buildings and houses means training needs vary a lot. Be specific with a trainer about your own floor plan and street. A dog who lives on a hill road needs different leash practice than one on a flat block near the river, and elevators deserve their own rehearsal.
